Machine Name Setup

If you have multiple 22 IDEX printers on your network, you can assign each one a unique name to easily distinguish between them. This allows you to connect using a custom name like myprinter.local instead of the default 22idex.local.

When to Use This Feature

You should change your machine's name if:

  • You have multiple 22 IDEX printers on the same network
  • You want easier identification of specific machines
  • You prefer custom naming for better organization

Default behavior:

  • All 22 IDEX printers use 22idex.local by default
  • If you only have one printer, you don't need to change this

How to Change Machine Name

Step 1: Access the Macro

  1. Open Web Interface:

    • Connect to your printer's web interface
    • Navigate to Macros > System > Settings > Network
  2. Run the Macro:

    • Click Change Machine's Name

Step 2: Choose Name Option

The macro will present two options:

Option 1: Keep Default (22 IDEX)

  • Machine remains accessible at 22idex.local
  • Use this if you only have one printer

Option 2: Set Custom Name

  • Enter your desired machine name
  • Examples: printer1, workshop, engineering, etc.
  • This name will be used for network access

Info: Note: Machine names should be simple, lowercase, and without spaces. Use hyphens if needed (e.g., printer-1).

Step 3: Enter Custom Name (If Selected)

  1. Enter Machine Name:

    • Type your desired name (e.g., printer1)
    • Avoid special characters and spaces
    • Keep it short and memorable
  2. Confirmation:

    • Machine displays: "Device name changed to: [your name]"
    • You'll be asked if you want to apply to Access Point now

Step 4: Apply to Access Point

Two options presented:

Yes, Apply Now

  • Reconfigures Access Point with new name immediately
  • Machine will restart to apply changes
  • You'll reconnect using new name

No, Skip

  • Name change saved but not applied yet
  • Takes effect after manual restart
  • Allows you to continue current session

Tip: Recommended: Choose "Yes, Apply Now" to ensure name change takes effect immediately.

Connecting After Name Change

Once the name is changed, you can access your printer using:

Format: [your-machine-name].local

Examples:

  • Default: http://22idex.local
  • Custom: http://printer1.local
  • Custom: http://workshop.local

Warning: Important: After changing the name, you must use the new name to connect. The old name will no longer work.

Multiple Machines Setup Example

If you have three printers, you could name them:

  • Printer 1: printer1.local
  • Printer 2: printer2.local
  • Printer 3: printer3.local

Or use descriptive names:

  • Production: production.local
  • Testing: testing.local
  • Development: development.local

Troubleshooting

Cannot Connect After Name Change

Problem: Changed machine name but cannot connect using new name.

Solution:

  1. Wait 2-3 minutes for network to update
  2. Restart the printer if "Skip" was selected earlier
  3. Clear your browser cache
  4. Try connecting via IP address instead
  5. Verify you're typing .local after the name

Forgot Machine Name

Problem: Changed the name but can't remember what it was set to.

Solution:

  1. Check your router's connected devices list (shows hostname)
  2. Connect via IP address directly
  3. Run the macro again to see current name or set a new one
  4. Check Access Point name when in AP mode (matches machine name)

Want to Reset to Default Name

Problem: Want to go back to default 22idex name.

Solution:

  1. Run Change Machine's Name macro
  2. Select Keep Default (22 IDEX)
  3. Choose to apply to Access Point
  4. Machine will reset to default name

Best Practices

Naming Recommendations:

  • ✅ Use simple, descriptive names
  • ✅ Keep names short (under 15 characters)
  • ✅ Use lowercase letters and numbers
  • ✅ Use hyphens for spaces (e.g., room-1)
  • ❌ Avoid special characters (@, #, $, etc.)
  • ❌ Avoid spaces in names

Documentation:

  • Write down your machine names and their locations
  • Label physical printers with their network names
  • Keep a network map if you have many printers

Summary

  • Purpose: Distinguish multiple printers on the same network
  • Default: 22idex.local for all machines
  • Custom Format: [your-name].local
  • When to Use: Only if you have multiple printers
  • Access Method: Macros > System > Settings > Network > Change Machine's Name

Quick Steps:

  1. Run macro from web interface
  2. Choose "Set Custom Name"
  3. Enter your desired name
  4. Apply to Access Point
  5. Reconnect using [your-name].local
