Fan Shroud

The fan shroud directs cooling air from the part cooling fan onto the printed part. Over time, the shroud can become damaged, warped from heat, or clogged with debris. This guide covers removal and installation of the fan shroud assembly, including the upper shroud that holds the hotend wiring.

Before you begin - safety and risk

Read the Safety - Before You Begin article to understand the hazards involved in working on the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4 - including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical risks. All procedures in this wiki are provided as recommendations only. By choosing to follow any procedure, you do so at your own risk.

Tools and Materials

  • Hex screwdriver (2.5 mm)
  • New fan shroud (if replacing)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Removing the Fan Shroud

Ensure printer is cool before removal

Allow the hotend and heater block to cool completely before working near them. The fan shroud sits very close to the heater block and nozzle, which can cause burns if still hot.

  1. Unscrew the two fixing screws on the side of the assembly. Be aware that these screws also hold the wires for the hotend.
  2. Carefully remove the upper shroud along with the screws.
  3. Remove the fan shroud along with the fan itself.
  4. Carefully disconnect the fan shroud from the fan by separating the fan from the shroud housing.

Installing the Fan Shroud

  1. Connect the fan shroud with the fan by clipping or pressing the fan into the shroud housing.
  2. Place the fan shroud assembly above the hotend and align the mounting holes with the holes on the hotend side.
  3. Place the upper shroud with screws above the fan shroud and insert the screws through both pieces.
  4. Tighten the screws slightly - just enough to hold the assembly in place.
  5. Route the hotend wires through the wire channel in the upper shroud.
  6. Tighten the screws securely, but do not overtighten. Excessive force can crack the plastic shroud.

Check fan operation after installation

After installation, power on the printer and run the part cooling fan from the Web Interface to verify the fan spins freely and air flows properly through the shroud.
