Purge Bucket Calibration

Brush height 23 mm above the nozzle, adjusting the brush vs. the whole bucket, and when to replace the brush

This guide explains how to adjust the purge bucket on the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4. The bucket holds brushes that wipe ooze from the nozzles before printing. As the steel nozzle wears the bristles, you need to raise the brush so it stays about 23 mm above the nozzle tip for reliable cleaning.

There are two ways to change height:

MethodRecommendationNotes
Adjust the brushRecommendedFewer screws, easier access, faster
Adjust the bucketNot recommendedOnly if the brush is fully worn and has no adjustment left order a replacement brush instead

Before you begin safety and risk

Read the Safety Before You Begin article to understand the hazards involved in working on the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4 including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical risks. All procedures in this wiki are provided as recommendations only. By choosing to follow any procedure, you do so at your own risk.

Power off, unplug, and let the hotend cool

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet. Wait at least 60 seconds for capacitors to discharge. The nozzle and heater block may still be hot after a recent print let them reach room temperature before you touch anything.

Tools and Materials

  • 2 mm hex screwdriver (hex wrench)
  • Ruler or calipers to verify the 23 mm gap

This is the preferred method: the brush has fewer screws and is easier to reach than the whole bucket.

  1. Move the toolhead over the purge bucket so you can see the brush-to-nozzle gap clearly.

  1. Check the gap from the top of the bristles to the nozzle tip. Target 23 mm the bristle tips should sit above the nozzle by that amount.

  1. Loosen the screws that hold the brush to the purge bucket.

  1. Raise the brush until the bristles are 23 mm above the nozzle tip.

  1. Tighten the brush screws evenly so the brush cannot shift during wiping.
  2. Jog the nozzle near the brush again and re-check the 23 mm clearance.

Use only when the brush has no adjustment left

Prefer ordering a replacement brush if the bristles are worn out and you cannot reach 23 mm by moving the brush alone.

Bucket screws strip easily

The four housing screws are easy to over-torque or strip. Damaged threads can make the bucket impossible to remove later. Adjust the bucket only if you accept that risk.

The purge bucket mounts to the housing with four screws. Moving the bucket moves the brush with it.

  1. Loosen all four screws that secure the purge bucket in the housing.

  1. Raise the bucket until the bristles sit 23 mm above the nozzle tip.

  1. Tighten the four screws evenly in a cross pattern so the bucket stays level and seated.
  2. Verify the 23 mm gap again with the nozzle near the brush.

3. When to replace the brush

If neither method can achieve 23 mm above the nozzle because the bristles are too short, order a Purge Bucket Nozzle Brush Set. If you are unsure which purge hardware fits your machine, reach out to our support team.
