Camera Installation

This guide covers installing a camera in the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4 to monitor prints remotely. The V4 has a pre-designed camera window on the enclosure, covered by a metal blanking plate. You will remove the blanking plate, cut the insulation behind it, and install a camera with a 3D-printed mounting bracket.

Before you begin - safety and risk

Read the Safety - Before You Begin article to understand the hazards involved in working on the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4 – including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical risks. All procedures in this wiki are provided as recommendations only. By choosing to follow any procedure, you do so at your own risk.

Tools and Materials

  • USB or IP camera compatible with your monitoring software
  • 3D-printed camera mounting bracket (STL file must match your camera model)
  • Side cutters (flush cutters) or heavy-duty scissors
  • Screwdriver (for bracket mounting)
  • File or sandpaper (for deburring sharp edges)
  • Gloves (for handling cut metal)

Compatibility

The camera window is designed to accommodate a variety of compact cameras. If you use a different camera model, you will need to design or modify the mounting bracket to fit. The recommended camera model will be specified in a future update. Other cameras can be used, but you will need to redesign the mounting bracket to match the camera dimensions.

Installation Procedure

  1. Locate the camera window on the enclosure panel. The camera window is covered by a thin metal blanking plate (punch-out style).

  1. Open your camera monitoring software (e.g., OctoPrint, Mainsail, or your operating system's camera application).

  2. Confirm the camera has a clear, unobstructed view of the build area.

  1. Adjust focus and angle if needed to optimize the view.

Notes

  • The camera window is a feature of the V4 enclosure design. Earlier printer versions (V2, V3) do not have this window.
  • High chamber temperatures (above 60–70 °C) may affect camera longevity. Position the camera so it is exposed to minimal direct heat, or use a camera rated for elevated temperatures.
  • If using the camera with OctoPrint, Mainsail, or similar monitoring tools, refer to their documentation for software setup.
